A task is the work done to meet a deadline.
A task is assigned to an active company member; its case link and due date are optional. Open, in-progress, done and cancelled statuses are supported. The person lanes and records shown are illustrative; the task list uses filters.

A legal deadline belongs to the file, a task to a person.
A task tracks work to do; it is not a legal-deadline calculation or fulfillment. Legal deadline tracking has a separate scope; completing a task does not automatically complete a legal action in the linked case.
Legal deadline
- What
- A legal due date tied to a file
- Tied to
- The case file
- Where it shows
- In the agenda and the case detail
- When it ends
- Assessed separately for the deadline type and applicable rules
Task
- What
- Work given to a person
- Tied to
- An active company member, with an optional case link
- Where it shows
- The authorized task list and applicable calendar view
- When it ends
- The due date does not close it automatically; done or cancelled removes it from active work
Tasks, kanban and the agenda answer different questions.
Assignment makes the owner of the work clear.
A task has one assignee; assignment requires active company membership and access to the relevant branch. Assigning a task does not itself grant case access. Person lanes are illustrative; actual tasks are filtered in the list.

An illustrative task flow
- 01/0609:05
Create a task with title, assignee and priority; description, case link and due date are optional. This illustration creates no record.
- 02/0609:06
An authorized user selects an eligible member; assignment alone grants no case access.
- 03/0609:06
A new assignment to someone else or a changed assignee queues a notification job. Self-assignment emits no such event; preferences and access checks may prevent sending.
- 04/0609:40
The assignee who can read the task, or a user with task-update permission, may change its status while the company is writable.
- 05/0614:00
Inspect authorized work with assignee, status, active-work and date filters. A filter is not an access rule by itself.
- 06/0616:30
Done records a completion time. Cancelled also leaves active work; passing the due date does not complete the task automatically.

What a task carries
A task is assigned to an active company member and may link to a case record; without a case, it remains general office work. There is no direct task link to a client record.
- Title
- What is to be done.
- Description
- Optional detail.
- Responsible person
- Required; an active company member who can access the relevant branch.
- Due date
- Optional target date; not a legal deadline or automatic closure.
- Status
- Open, in progress, done or cancelled; priority is also selected.
- Linked record
- Optional case record; no direct client link.
- 02/04
Follow-up: status and due date
Four statuses are supported: open, in progress, done and cancelled. Assignee, status/active-work and date filters narrow the view; done and cancelled are not active work. A due date does not close the task automatically.

Who sees and assigns tasks?
Reading, creating, editing and deleting use separate permissions. An assignee can change a readable task’s status without general task-update permission; a read-only company blocks that write too. “Assigned to me” is a list filter, not an own-tasks-only authorization boundary. Company, branch and applicable case scope also apply. See roles and permissions.
- 04/04
Assignment notifications are conditional
Assigning to someone else queues a durable notification attempt; this guarantees neither delivery nor reading. Company/user preferences, current access, recipient address, device permission and channel-provider conditions apply; SMS/WhatsApp also require a connection and quota; WhatsApp requires a suitable template. See notifications. Dated open tasks have a separately selected calendar scope; done/cancelled tasks leave the active calendar.

What do lawyers ask about tasks?
How is a task different from a hearing or a legal deadline?
A task tracks work with an assignee, priority, optional target date and status. Hearings/legal deadlines are separate records; completing a task does not fulfill a legal action or deadline automatically. Calendar scope for dated active tasks is selected separately.
Can I reassign a task to someone else?
Yes; task-update permission, current company access and an eligible active member are required. The new assignee’s branch access is checked; the assignment itself grants no case access. A notification attempt on reassignment remains conditional.
Can a task be linked to a case or a client?
A task may optionally link to a case or remain general work without one. Direct client links are not supported. An assignee is required; a due date is optional.
Who can see tasks?
Task-read permission combines with company, branch and applicable case scope. An assignee or “assigned to me” filter narrows the view; it does not create own-tasks-only authorization. See roles and permissions.
What happens when a task is completed?
Done records the completion time and remains listable according to filters unless deleted. Cancelled also leaves active work and the active calendar. Passing the due date does not automatically mark it done.
- Calendar and agenda · hearings, deadlines and appointments carry time-bound work, tasks carry person-bound work.
- Case management · link the task to the file so it stays clear which case the work is for.
- Notifications · assignment attempts are subject to preferences and channel/provider conditions; delivery is not guaranteed.
